Dr. Ong graduated from Medical Faculty University Malaya in 1973.  After his housemanship in University Hospital, Kuala Lumpur he served2 years compulsory service in the Ministry of Health hospitals in Taipingand Changkat Melintang in Perak as a medical officer.

He joined University Hospital in 1975 as a trainee MO in Radiology. In 1977 he was awarded the ASTS (Academic Staff Training Scheme) and sent to do further training at the Royal Free Hospital, University London. He finished his training and passed the FRCR in 1978.

He came back as a lecturer in Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, UM until 1981.  From 1981 he was a pioneer consultant radiologist in Johor Specialist Hospital until he retired in 2018. He was a consultant radiologist for 6 months in the new KPJ Bandar Dato Onn, before joining Kensington Green SC as a consultant radiologist in Nov 2019.
